Blood pressure has a daily rhythm most people never see

Why you can't see this pattern from a single reading
A blood pressure reading taken once at a morning appointment tells you nothing about whether that morning value represents a normal surge, an exaggerated one, or simply your baseline. The only way to actually observe your own dipping pattern is through home monitoring at set times of day, or more precisely through 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, which measures automatically at intervals through a full day and night, including while you sleep.
This is one more reason a single office visit, however well the reading turns out, is an incomplete picture of what your blood pressure is actually doing across a full day.
What to actually do with this information
If you already monitor at home, consider taking a reading first thing in the morning, before coffee or medication, and again in the evening, so you and your clinician have both ends of the daily curve rather than just one.
Don't try to interpret your own dipping status from a couple of home readings; this is a pattern that researchers identify using structured, repeated, or ambulatory monitoring, not a do-it-yourself calculation.
If your clinician has reason to suspect an abnormal circadian pattern, ask specifically about 24-hour ambulatory monitoring rather than trying to reconstruct the picture from occasional home readings.
